If Poets Had Wrath By Jahid Onik
If Poets Had Wrath By Jahid Onik

It’s a good thing that I can write,
Even better –
I am blind to seeing the ugly and hateful stuff.
Somebody loved me, loved my soul, and left me like she did not care more.
It’s a good thing that I am partially blind,
I did not see her way out where she left me, where she abandoned me.
I only saw when and how she loved me.

After reading a lot of stories and poems and tons of words that I used to think are Love and Life —
And those words that I used to think are all about me, about us!;
Are not..
What I learned about seeing and un-seeing is –
The story we think is about us, the poetry we think we belong in it –
The life we are living — The story we think about us; is actually not about us at all.

You talk about time- I think about time too
I see what you are trying to do with time.
You are tweaking the time, you think time is a unit of awaiting-
Some think Time is like sea waves that will bring pearls from the core of the sea-
I see time as it just doesn’t mean anything-
I don’t want to go past or future, I won’t even go through the present-
I don’t believe me, I don’t believe time – I know the watch on your hand is making you fool.

I know what I want is larger than the universe,
I know what I want will never come true.
Because time will only fulfill my needs, not my desire.
I imagine time as my wife. I’m married with time as forever in good health and sickness.
I can’t fight against her, I can declare war against her-
It’s a good thing I’m a poet, and I don’t have any wrath.

If poets had wrath —
My Wrath would have destroyed my poetry, it would have cursed your eyes to make you blind.
If I had wrath, it would have already collapsed the earth.
It’s a good thing that poets don’t have any wrath.
When poets get hurt, they create a universe, they don’t seek to punish the evils.
It’s a good thing that I am a poet and I don’t have wrath-
If I had Wrath, my curse would have already vacuumed and sucked all the air of your city.
You might have to force yourself to come to me just to breathe…
It’s a good thing that I’m a poet and I don’t have any wrath. ..
